The village of Guejar Sierra nestles in the Genil valley at a height of more than 1,000 metres on the edge of the Sierra Nevada National Park. The population is less than 3,000 but there are all the necessary amenities to make your stay enjoyable. Three local convenience stores will stock most of the basic items you may require; there are several other shops selling meat, fish, hardware as well a pharmacy and newsagent. There are also two banks with ATMs. At the heart of the village is the Plaza Mayor where the men still gather to watch the world go by under the shade of the trees and nearby is the 17th century parish church. It is here that the local bus service to Granada terminates.
