About Gauchy

Situated in the Vermandois, a plateau covered in extremely fertile alluvial soil, irrigated by the Somme and well-suited to sugar-beet and cereal cultivation, Gauchy was an essentially rural village until about 1850. Like its neighbour Saint-Quentin, the village was then subject to significant industrial development, due to the opening of a textile factory in the 1920s, now Tergal-Fibres. Since then, other companies have come to Gauchy, including several which are known the world over, particularly for comestic products and luxury perfumes. Gauchy has now become the town of perfumes and flowers! Although it has no particularly significant historical heritage, the town has managed to show itself to advantage through some very successful large-scale landscaping, and of course the flowers and floral decoration present everywhere. You will appreciate the promenade around the town hall, planted with hardy perennials, aromatic plants and a collection of irises, the walk at the Moulin de Tous Vents (all-winds windmill) and above all the Parc du Millénaire or Millennium Park, which offers a magnificent view over Saint-Quentin and its basilica .
