Ithaca has no airport, mainly due to its mountainous topography and these factors have spared Ithaca the large scale tourist development that other Ionian islands have fallen prey to. Although the island can get very busy in the summer, Ithaca's tourism is mainly confined to a six week period in July and August and attracts many Greek and Italian tourists as well as British. With its low key resorts and its pebbly coves dotted around the coastline, Ithaca is an island to visit if you are looking for a quiet holiday in a traditional village. Frikes is the most northerly of Ithaca's village resorts. Centred around a tiny harbour, Frikes is a tiny, relaxed village with a handful of inhabitants. A few tourists also stay in nearby Stavros, the most important village in north Ithaca with the largest population.
