Sunderland is a place full of history, from the industrial heritage of shipbuilding, rope making and glass blowing to the important religious history of the area. It was here that England's first stained glass window was produced and installed and also where one of the earliest Christian buildings in England was erected (a wall of which still remains in St. Peters Church). Once one of the worlds most important shipbuilding towns, Sunderland built ships that travelled the world over and from the Wearmouth Bridge you can still see the remaining shipbuilding area. Sunderland has gone through, and still is going through a period of redevelopment and renewal but already the city has built a whole new reputation for itself.
