Solo Holiday
Spent a wonderful 5 nights at Rockside Guesthouse. Very warm welcome by Caroline who always had a cheerful smile and was helpful with regard local information. Room was perfect for solo traveller. Very comfortable bed and was woken to the wonderful smell of the fabulous cooked breakfast. Breakfast was plentiful and very tasty. The award winning marmalade very good (able to purchase). Conveniently situated for walks, shopping and near to bus station. A truly memorable stay and as a lady travelling alone would highly recommend a stay here. The added touch of homemade treats was a welcome addition after a long day of walking. Would definitely stay again when I'm next in the area.

Outstanding Service
We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Rockside Guest house in Windermere, and the service we received was superb. Upon booking we made them aware that my wife is Lactose/Diary intolerant, and every effort was made to make sure no ingredients, my wife has an intolerance of, were used, to the point of making her, her own cake so she didn't feel left out, even making some for her to bring home. We had lactose free milk in the fridge in our room, and dairy free butter and yogurt at breakfast. We were in room 8, up in the loft space, and as other reviews have mentioned, the en-suite isn't very big, but we didn't find that a problem at all. The king size bed was very comfy and there was plenty of storage for your clothes.

For breakfast we had ample choice of cereals, fruit, juices and a choice of cooked breakfast from the menu. Plus every day Caroline baked different cake treats for you and left them in the reception area, my wife had dairy free banana bread instead, which she said was amazing.

Nothing was too much trouble, and every guest is made to feel so welcome.

If we visit the Lakes again, we will definitely stay here, as you are quite central, plenty of restaurants and pubs within walking distance, and Bowness-on-Windermere is about 20-25 mins walk away.

We won't recommend the Rockside to other people... we want to keep it all to ourselves!

Thank you so much for making our stay perfect!

Last Minute Booking But Great Decision!
We where due to fly out to Barcelona on Friday but due to the tragic events, we decided against going and instead looked at booking in Bowness or Windermere. We have visited this area many times and know how hard it is to find any vacancies last minute. Anyway, there was one room left at Rockside and after reading some reviews we booked it. On arrival we were greeted warmly by Caroline and shown to our lovely en-suite room. After having a mooch around town we went back and had a slice of the most fantastic battenburg which Caroline and her husband Martin provide for guests in the reception area. We got up for breakfast on Saturday after a great night's kip, the bed was so comfy and its such a quiet little place. You get a really good choice for breakfast, fresh juices and fruit, homemade granola and museli then a selection of hot food from local sources (great back bacon and sausages) and also American style waffles with maple bacon, blueberry pancakes, smokes salmon bagels and free range eggs cooked however you would like them. Finish off with the not to be missed honemade marmalade and jams.....not good if your trying to diet! Think I've put half a stone on in 3 days but enjoyed doing it!! Make sure you bring some home, they make great gifts too. In short, we are really glad we found this little gem, had 3 great nights sleep and were made to feel so welcome. We will be back for the Christmas markets so will be booking early! A big thank you to Caroline and Martin.

Marmalade By Royal Appointment!
We chose Rockside as our honeymoon accommodation on the basis of other very positive reviews. Caroline and Martin did not disappoint, in fact they exceeded our every expectation. Their homemade produce at breakfast as part of their extensive menu, were the perfect start to every day, and the homemade cakes left in the hall were a lovely treat at the end. You can even take a bit of 'Rockside' home with you in the form of jams, marmalades (award winning), granola and banana loaf.

The suite we stayed in was capacious, stylish and very comfortable. Every little home comfort is afforded at this wonderful guesthouse.

A Restful Stay
Rockside Guesthouse is located one block away from Windermere Railway Station which was perfect for me. There are plenty of cafes and restaurant within short walking distances, as well as small shops and supermarket (Sainsbury and Coop). The homemade marmalade and strawberry jam served during breakfast was, as other reviewers said, excellent. I came home with 4 bottles of assorted jam and they are all good.

The room that I booked was a single (I call it the attic room because it's located at the very top of the house), plenty of steps to climb, which was not a problem for me but maybe not ideal for everyone. Martin, Caroline's partner, helped with bringing up my suitcase.

The room itself is larger than previous single rooms of b&b that I stayed in the area. The bed size is a double, which is again larger than most b&b's single room bed. I liked my room, it felt nice and cozy especially when it was raining during my visit. I also like the double leather sofa provided in the room, it gave me an option of reading in bed or sitting on the sofa.

A Great Base From Which To Explore The Lakes
We were visiting The Lake District for the first time in 30 years and found this beautiful guest house in Windermere. Caroline was very welcoming and a great host. Our day always started with a lovely breakfast. Try the home made 'Strawberry and Black Pepper' jam. Take it home, delicious. The guest house is near the train/bus station, which allowed us to explore a different area of The Lake District every day. If we ever return to the area, we will definitely check out the Rockside.

Excellent Base From Which To Explore The Lake District.
Very comfortable accommodation and first class breakfasts. Rockside is very close to the train and bus station making it a particularly good base for those without a car.

We spent a week at Rockside and enjoyed every aspect of our stay. The room was cheerful and well kept and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast menu is extensive and we enjoyed the fresh yogurt and homemade sweet breads every morning. Martin knows how to work up some great meals and cakes. Rockside is especially convenient to those traveling by train or using the local transportation but more significantly Caroline and Martin are welcoming and delightful hosts.

Gem In The Lakes
Spent a brilliant long weekend at Rockside. Caroline and Martin were lovely throughout, nothing was too much trouble, and the breakfast is to die for! They even managed to supply us with Gluten free options, which was a god send!

The guest house is lovely throughout and has lots of personally informed information on the local area highlighting there is plenty to do in the local area, in which the hotel is perfectly positioned for walks and access (just round the corner from the railway and bus stations. (Rocky enjoyed the walks too!)

The Marmalade and Jam is a MUST as is the Lime and Ginger cake, left in reception for guests to enjoy... Yum!

The accommodation was excellent, clean, comfortable and welcoming. The breakfast choice is amazing, more than in a hotel! The owners are lovely, nothing is too much trouble and the selection of cake in reception is a lovely touch, especially the lime and ginger drizzle cake which is gorgeous. I highly recommend this guest house over and above the majority of hotels in Windermere.

Nothing Was Too Much Trouble
Spent a fantastic weekend at Rockside. Caroline and Marting made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them. The home cooked breakfasts were just what we needed before a day of activities and then returning to home made cakes was just perfect. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We will definitely be back.

Great Place To Stay Lovely Hosts
Just come back from a long weekend staying at the rockside. I can honestly say I think it's the best B&B we've stayed in. Every morning a lovely home cooked breakfast with fresh made banana bread. You come home after a long day walking or sightseeing and your greeted with freshly made cookies or cakes... peppermint shortbread, Bakewell tart and lemon drizzle cake. Parking is an additional bonus, I would recommend the pig for food, the crafty baa and cafe Italian for drinkies.

“comfortable B And B In Beautiful Lake District”
We booked last minute after a funeral in Scotland and were very pleased with the attractive building. Caroline made us very welcome and made sure that we had everything we needed. She even baked fresh cakes and biscuits every day for guests to help themselves to, which we found delicious. The breakfasts were well catered for and covered every need and the breakfast room light and comfortable. The weather was marvellous and just what we needed to enjoy a relaxing few days in beautiful surroundings.

The Perfect way to see the Lake and stunning surrounding is to walk up to Orrest Head. Wainwright's famous walk is is not a difficult walk and is an easy 20 minutes to the top. It's very well sign posted from the Windermere tourist information centre, just around the corner from the B and B.

On the Wednesday we spent a pleasant evening at the Lamplighters Hotel just a short walk away and found that a local folk band were spending an evening there practising. They were very entertaining and friendly and we loved the free live entertainment. We even got a personal email from Caroline when we arrived home which was thoughtful and kind.

Lovely bed and breakfast located at a stone throw from Windermere train station, which is handy if you will be exploring the Lake district by bus, as all the buses stop there. More than a room it felt like a comfy and cozy mini apartment under the roof. It was all around excellent: our hosts, the delicious breakfasts, the decor and the atmosphere. And very good value for money too! Can't recommend it enough.

Home From Home
Outstanding beautiful characterful guesthouse in Windermere. A proper old building, with staircases all over the place and lovely rooms. The hosts are the nicest people you could meet, but the standout feature here is the breakfast: I've never seen such an amazing selection at a guesthouse... so much local produce, not to mention the homemade jams and marmalades! Surely the best breakfast in the Lakes- certain to set you up for a day's fell walking. The location is spot-on too, ideal for someone like me who arrived by train- it's under 5 minutes walk from the station... and the house is at the "quiet / classy" end of the village, away from the crammed tourist chaos of Bowness.. and yet within walking distance of all the attractions. But did I mention the breakfasts!?!? Looking forward to my next stay here already.
