First Class Accommodation And Superb Breakfast
We stayed just 1 night at Florence Garden Boutique Hotel as part of a short weekend break and we were delighted with the accommodation and the standard of the breakfast.

I must admit that we would have never found this gem just walking by, because the outside of this hotel is quite deceiving.

Charming Small Hotel
We were warmly greeted by one of the very attentive staff. They kept our luggage while we went to explore the town (we arrived in mid morning and the room, not surprisingly, wasn't ready). On our return, the room was ready and our luggage carried up. Very comfortable bed, huge bath, plenty of hot water, and nicely decorated. The hotel is a series of town houses now converted to hotel use. Excellent full breakfast cooked to order and cheerfully served. The only disappointment was VERY poor service at the restaurant attached to the hotel. Staff at the hotel was distressed to hear of our bad experience. We will return when we are next in Portsmouth.

Fantastic Value
We had no problems finding parking in spite of it being a bank holiday Monday on a scorchingly hot day in Southsea.

Check-in was welcoming and efficient. Our room - Room 4 - was fresh, bright and comfortable. Whilst it was hot (no air-conditioning) we were provided with a fan and were able to open windows- we were not disturbed by outside noise in spite of room facing a road.

The bathroom was large and clean with a walk in shower.

Breakfast was freshly prepared and catered for my wife's gluten-free diet.

Southsea Castle - Hampshire - Castle

Distance 0.37 miles (0.59 km)
Southsea Castle was built by Henry VIII between 1544 and 1545 to protect Portsmouth against possible French invasion. Its revolutionary design provided for the most efficient use of guns in attack or defence now that artillery dominated warfare. In the early 19th century, the castle was substantially altered to accommodate extra guns and a larger garrison of 200 men. The most significant addition of this period was an underground tunnel around the moat, which you can still enter. The castle was only withdrawn from active service in 1960. In our amazing Time Tunnel the Ghost of the Castle's first master gunner guides you through the most dramatic scenes from the castle's eventful history.

Portsmouth has been home to the Royal Navy for over five hundred years. The historic dockyard contains Nelson's flagship HMS Victory alongside HMS Warrior, the first iron clad battleship. The Royal Naval Museum has the remains of Henry VIII's warship the Mary Rose, which was raised from the seabed in 1982. It was also in Portsmouth that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created the world renowned detective "Sherlock Holmes". Portsmouth is also host to the continental Ferry Port. No visit to Southern England is complete without a fun day out at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
